We are excited to welcome for the first time to our vineyard, Michael Young and Sándor Szabó! Both men are amazing fingerstyle guitarists, Michael Young from Minneapolis and Sándor Szabó from Hungary! Don't miss this incredible concert!
Michael Young is, well, young. This Minneapolis fingerstyle guitarist who plays both the six and twelve-string guitar with driving rhythm and groove is in his early twenties, but don’t let that fool you. There is an old soul behind his innovative and technically proficient fretwork, and Michael carries his bouncy and energetic groove from powerful and compelling compositions to soulful ballads. Moving from daunting and alarming to lighthearted and idiosyncratic instrumentals, Michael takes advantage of the guitar's possibilities by combining standard and alternate tunings with a mix of slide guitar into his playing. He has impressed audiences all over the country including appearances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, the legendary CBGB 313 Gallery in New York City, and the illustrious Knitting Factory also in New York City. While primarily an instrumentalist, Michael also incorporates his warm singing voice into his sets.
Sándor Szabó, born in 1956 in Törökszentmiklós, Hungary, started his studies with a private teacher of classical guitar. After trying different styles from the middle of the seventies, he began to focus on improvisation. His career started in 1980. Since the acoustic guitar has no tradition in the Hungarian music culture, playing acoustic guitar and composing for guitar was not an acknowledged and respected art. That is why he could achieve results mainly abroad with his playing, through playing techniques of different stringed instruments, with his modern pieces, and deep spirituality. His records has been released in England, USA, Germany and Hungary. Sándor Szabó made three solo albums for the german Acoustic Music Records.
In his music he blends the classical forms with meditative mood of the Eastern music, Hungarian folk musical elements and improvisation that he inherited from jazz. The atmosphere of his concerts is intimate and personal.
Up to now, Szabó is repeatedly toured throughout Europe and also performed several times in the USA and Japan, Korea as a fingerstyle guitar player. He also did some master classes in the US and France of his special harmony concept.
